Lake Washington Mitigation Bank (LWMB) is a 1657-acre site located within the St. Johns River and Lake Washington Floodplain and is contiguous to a portion of the southeastern shore of Lake Washington in the City of Melbourne, Brevard County, Florida. LWMB provides a key connection between Lake Washington, a class I water body and the Lake Washington/St. Johns River flood plain. Approved by St. Johns River Water Management District in July 2016 and the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers in June 2017, the Lake Washington Mitigation Bank features freshwater floodplain marshes throughout the site. The mitigation plan includes restoration, enhancement and preservation of native vegetative communities as well as enhancement and long-term management of wildlife habitat throughout the bank site.

LWMB is approved to offset freshwater herbaceous wetland impacts within the St. Johns River Water Management District’s Southern St. Johns River Basin (Basin 20) and a portion of the Central Indian River Lagoon (Basin 22).
